EMRAP Cares (2)

Soup 4 Friends

Soup 4 Friends is supported under our 501c3 and is just one aspect of our EMRAP Cares division. Soup 4 Friends joining EMRAP Cares is about forming a partnership to continue to source and share resources to achieve our goals of supporting ALL our community members.

Every Sunday Soup 4 Friends volunteers meet at the Oakhurst Community Center prepared to cook and assemble dozens of meals to be taken out and distributed to members of our unhoused community. The focus is on providing life-sustaining necessities, food and water. Such a simple premise, but food insecurity is something that so many of our community members struggle with. In the coming months Soup 4 Friends is hoping to expand the number of weekly meals served.

Already the partnership with EMRAP Cares and the Oakhurst Community Center has yielded more volunteers and more members of the community turning to them for a weekly meal. The volume of community members served is now expanding to our seniors and our low income community members. In our country alone, at least 40% of consumer produced food ends up in our landfills, while many struggle to know where their next meal will come from. Soup 4 Friends "food-first" approach focuses on alleviating part of the burden of food insecurity, allowing our community members the chance to focus on positive changes for their physical and mental well being.

Soup 4 Friends tries to provide additional support with personal hygiene necessities whenever possible and always offers accessible connections to resources provided through out the community.

A true community is not just about being geographically close to someone or part of the same social web network. It's about feeling connected and responsible for what happens. Humanity is our ultimate community, and everyone plays a crucial role.”
